But the geometry of the rabbet plane made it a little tougher to get into tight places and still be able to see what was going on. I like that idea of dry-erase marker - might be a lot easier than the soot.Tiny Shop Woodworkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10375332433853904113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1321553715454450871.post-69343052821011778322018-09-08T02:41:07.810-07:002018-09-08T02:41:07.810-07:00I also have one whose body has twisted and which I...I also have one whose body has twisted and which I will have to plane straight ans square. I have no problem with an aggressive rehab if it brings an unusable tool back to life.

It looks like your candle soot trick worked well. I think many modern makers often do the same thing, except with a dry-erase marker. However, I think your candle soot looks a bit more appropriate on the bed of the plane than red or purple ink.

Cheers!Brian Evehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04252174035715635674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1321553715454450871.post-45207082675060273692018-09-07T21:57:49.528-07:002018-09-07T21:57:49.528-07:00Thanks Jonas. There is not much fun in having an old tool lying around if it can't be used because it is too beat up.

Brgds
JonasJonas Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07787393233185454227noreply@blogger.com
